Thinning Hair and Hair Loss

Thinning hair is a topic that affects both young and mature members of the “natural hair club”. It can also affect those who use chemical processes in their hair care routine. This is a topic that is very dear to my heart, as I myself have experienced thinning hair and hair loss. My experience with a reduction in hair growth and loss of hair led me on a journey to concoct a hair salve that I use on a daily basis. This salve encourages the promotion of hair growth, the retention of moisture and combats thinning hair, amongst other things! My journey with hair loss and thinning hair follicles led me to write this article and share a few things that can assist you in your journey.

First:

Make sure you are using products that increase blood flow and circulation to your scalp. You also want to make sure that you use products that provide enough moisture to the scalp. There are different oils and butters you can use to will help with hair loss such as ucuuba butter, castor oil, olive oil and andiroba oil. These are all products you can buy online.

Second:

You also want to use products that have antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties, as fungus or bacteria can sometimes cause thinning. There are also natural herbs that you can use in your hair care routine such as Rosemary, Peppermint, Stinging Nettle, Ginkgo Biloba and Saw Palmetto, which all assist with hair loss and thinning hair. These herbs stimulate hair growth, increase blood flow and circulation to the scalp, and can correct deficiencies present in the hair follicle.

Third:

Be aware of how tight your wear your durag/scarf and the manner in which you tie these accessories. If the durag/scarf is tied too tightly over long periods of time, decreased blood flow to the scalp could result. Traction alopecia could also occur. Traction alopecia is a mechanically induced alopecia (hair loss) as a result of particular hair styling routines. If the durag/scarf is consistently knotted in the same position over a long duration, hair loss could occur; especially if the knot is positioned over your wave/curl pattern.

These are a few of the herbs, oils, and butter that I use in my hair salve which have assisted me in correcting my thinning hair and hair loss. As always, I hope this post is of great use!
